Your Guide to the New Subaru Forester in Perth Showrooms

New City Subaru

In recent years, the Subaru Forester has developed a solid reputation for dependability and safety. Every grade has a fantastic safety suite including lane keep assist, radar cruise control, and blind-spot detection. However, there is much more to this fantastic SUV, so here we’ll delve a little deeper into the new Subaru Forester in Perth showrooms.

What’s New?

When the first generation Subaru Forester arrived in Australia back in 1997, it was the start of the trend for compact all-terrain wagons. In short, the Forester made it cool to have a compact SUV. This model was offered with a 2.0-litre engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Today, the manual and 2.0-litre unit are not available; instead, the new four-cylinder 2.5-litre petrol boxer is paired with a CVT or continuously variable transmission. This provides an impressive fuel economy while offering excellent performance.

The Spec

The entry-level Subaru Forester still has a premium feel and look with an impressive spec list. This includes LED headlights, 17-inch alloys, and functional roof rails. There is also a 6.5-inch infotainment system that is intuitive and offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and digital radio.

Inside the cabin, the finish is good with great overall ambience, with three USBs, and storage evenly distributed throughout the cabin.

On the Road

The Subaru Forester is a capable and solid medium-sized SUV. The adaptive radar cruise control features four different distance settings to maintain your distance from the car in front. You can also save fuel with the idle-stop system that shuts down the engine to improve the economy. However, what is a real stand out when you’re on the road is the impressive powertrain. The four-cylinder 2.5-litre direct-injection engine delivers 136 kW of power with a zero to 100 kilometres per hour rate of 9.1 seconds

The smooth CVT feels free of fuss with touch-sensitive steering that makes the Forester feel manoeuvrable even if you’re trying to negotiate a tight carpark. The Forester feels engaging and agile, cleanly tracking corners, ensuring a comfortable and quiet cabin even at highway cruising speeds.

Space

The new Subaru Forester feels larger and more accommodating, with a larger wheelbase compared to the outgoing model. Although it is only a small increase, it has made a big difference inside the cabin. The boot space has been increased to 498 litres and has a wider tailgate to make loading easier.

There is a fold-down armrest for rear occupants that creates an almost lounge-like setting, and the standard 6.5-inch infotainment system with a Harmon Kardon stereo system ensures that everyone can relax and enjoy the journey.
