The 2018 Subaru Liberty complete with its new facelift has finally surfaced in America. In the USA, this car is known as the Legacy, but it is the same vehicle that we will see here in the near future. At the moment, solid details about a number of the new features are unavailable, but there are some things that we do know.
A Revised Exterior:
The Subaru Liberty for sale in Australia today looks quite different from the revised Legacy (Liberty) that we saw in the USA. There were obvious external changes at the front end, such as a fully revised design, new C-shaped headlights, daytime running lights, LED fog lights, a new bumper design and a wider grille that features a chrome slat. At the rear, the changes are less radical with only a new design bumper that emphasises the car’s width.
A Look Inside:
The interior has had a more subtle makeover with features, such as a new sporty steering wheel, a redesigned clock, silver coloured bezels, dashboard stitching, black trim and a climate control system with displays for temperature mounted in the control dials. All this is very aesthetically pleasing, but there are some key practical improvements as well, such as an upgraded larger 8” infotainment display with smartphone mirroring, improved voice recognition, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
American Specifications:
The American models will still have the Subaru 2.5 litre four cylinder and 3.6 litre six cylinder powerplants. As you would expect there is an all wheel drive married to a Continuously Variable Transmission. There are some new features to get excited about, such as more responsive steering, automatic high beams, automatic braking when reversing, revised alloy wheel designs and new choice of paint. Subaru has also made the cabin quieter by using reshaped wing mirrors, thicker rear wheel aprons and revised windows to reduce noise. If all this wasn’t enough, Subaru has tweaked the settings on the suspension, steering, throttling, and transmission to improve performance.
Australian Availability Details:
This new Subaru Liberty will make its official debut at the Chicago motor show, and it’s scheduled to go on sale in mid 2017. Subaru Australia PR manager David Rowley has publicly stated that the new updated Liberty model isn’t due to arrive in Australia until 2018 at the earliest. There has also been no official news yet on how the Australian version may differ from the model that will be sold stateside.
