Subaru Unveil New Concept Car at the Los Angeles Auto Show

Subarun Impreza

Following on from their impressive showing at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, Subaru unveiled a new version of their concept car at the LA Auto Show. The concept unveiled in Tokyo was a hatchback version, but this version was a sedan. It makes perfect sense that a sedan should be unveiled in America as it is the most popular body shape in the States. If they are looking to buy Subaru new cars for sale, Perth residents already have a wide selection of models to choose from. However, it is always interesting to see what advances are being made for the future.

The New Impreza?

It is now understood that this concept car is the new Impreza which may be available from 2016 onwards. Although the design is not yet finalised, Subaru have stated that many of the themes on show will be on the new model. Of course the hatch was previewed first, now followed by the sedan body shape. The first thing to notice is that the range as presented in this format demonstrates a more holistic whole. Previous iterations of the Impreza sedan and hatch looked quite different from each other. This familiarity between the two body shapes will lend some more power to the brand and make the new Impreza more instantly recognisable.

A New Dimension?

The Subaru Impreza Concept seen at the LA Auto Show had a new colour that Subaru has named “Ruby Red Metallic”. The 19” alloy wheels were colour tipped and the guards were pumped. The actual dimensions are 4,555mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,453mm high. This makes the Impreza concept 30mm shorter, 140mm wider and 8mm lower than the current model. The wheelbase is 2,670mm long which is an increase of 25mm over the latest Impreza. These new dimensions make the vehicle feel larger inside; it looks sportier than the current model and Subaru have stated that the handling will be more surefooted.

New Features for the Entire Range?

Subaru has stated that many of the new design features on this new concept vehicle could be used across their entire future range. This new design direction is subtle in some areas and more radical in others. As an example, the changes at the front end of the concept car are quite minimal, there are still: sharp line headlights and the same bumper design. However, the new chrome finish smoked grille is something completely new. At the rear of the vehicle: the tail lights are new, there is a new boot lid spoiler and a lowered rear bumper. The overall effect gives the Impreza concept a sporty coupe look and it will be interesting to see which design elements would be incorporated in other Subaru models.
