New Subaru Outback 2015: The Right Choice for You

If you’re toying with the idea of acquiring a mid-sized SUV, the new Subaru Outback should be on your radar. If you haven’t quite made up your mind whether an SUV is what you need, you should read on and make your decision after you do.

  1. Price: The new Subaru Outback 2015 comes with a drastic cut in price, making it far friendlier to your pocket than its predecessors. The cut goes as high as $10,000 on certain variants, with a minimum of $2000 across all five variants. This is the most competitively priced SUV in its class, and comparable to sedans, making it a great choice if you haven’t quite decided between the SUV and a sedan yet.
  2. Handling: It doesn’t have the heavy handling that you’d associate with most SUVs. It’s lighter than most SUVs, better balanced, and it handles with far greater ease on the road than you would expect of most SUVs. While it has the capabilities of one, it handles much more like a six-cylinder sedan, making it far better for daily use while not detracting from its off-road capabilities for your weekend adventures. Subaru’s signature All-Wheel-Drive lives up to expectations as usual.
  3. SUV capabilities: When you get an SUV, you need to be sure that it can handle more than pure, polished, smooth tarmac. The new Subaru Outback 2015 has a clearance of 213mm, making it quite suitable for most off-road activities. It’s also better on hills and slopes or slippery areas since it has the Forester’s X-Mode system, which improves traction control considerably.
  4. Fuel efficient: The new Subaru Outback with its 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder Boxer engine is more fuel efficient than that of the earlier version, at 7.3 litres per 100 km, which is excellent for this category. The diesel versions also see an increase in fuel economy. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel version which comes with a six-speed manual transmission now has a fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100 km. The automatic needs 6.3 litres per 100 km, which is, again, impressive in its class. The big one – the 3.6R, fully loaded with the 3.6-litre six-cylinder Boxer engine – will use 9.9 litres per 100 km.
  5. Power: The 2.5-litre petrol version is also more powerful than the earlier generation version, giving 129kW at 5800rpm. Maximum torque is 235Nm at 4100rpm. The diesel will give you 110kW at 3600rpm. Maximum torque is 350Nm between 1600-2800rpm. The one that packs the biggest punch, of course, is the top variant, 3.6R; it gives you 191kW of 6000rpm and maximum torque of 350Nm at 4400rpm. It also comes with CVT auto transmission, an upgrade on the earlier five-speed auto.
  6. Safety: The 2015 Subaru Outback also comes with extremely good safety ratings – ANCAP 5, of course, following Subaru tradition, but the score of 35.99 out of a maximum of 37 should reassure you. All petrol variants come with the Eyesight Driver Assist System, which is another big comfort when you’re driving. It includes automatic braking intervention, making you as safe as possible. Reverse-view cameras are part of all the new 2015 Subaru Outback variants.
