If you are visiting Subaru dealers, Victoria Australia gearheads may be interested in the imminent arrival of the new limited edition Subaru Forester TS. Subaru has recently announced that the model will be hitting dealerships in the coming weeks and will be priced at $54,990 plus on the road costs.
The Subaru Forester TS:
The STi tuned TS was revealed in 2014 as a model for the Japanese market. However, during the drive for the new Levorg wagon, the TS was confirmed for an Australian launch. Unfortunately, numbers are limited, and only 300 units are headed for Australia. When the Forester TS does arrive, this powered up and sports tuned model will have a price tag $7,000 over the top of the range XT Premium.
The Australian variant of the TS will use the same four cylinder, turbocharged 2.0 litre petrol engine used in the XT. This delivers 177 kW of power and 350 Nm torque, which has less power compared to the 206 kW model offered in Japan. However, the difference in output does not appear to have compromised local interest.
Nick Senior, Managing Director of Subaru Australia, said that when the Forester TS was flagged late in 2015, enquires from customers came flooding in. He commented that the company is already wishing that they had ordered more units.
The Limited Edition:
Mr. Senior argued that the TS is the “only true sport SUV” available for under $80,000. He assures that with Subaru’s renowned retained value and the model’s rarity, the TS is likely to be one of the first examples of a collectible SUV.
The TS is set apart from the regular Forester lineup with STi specific handling and styling tweaks. Subaru has said that this adds up to 28 unique changes compared to the regular variants of the SUV.
The TS is based on the new Forester range, but the limited edition features add up to $12,000 of value. The handling and exterior features include an STi front spoiler, Crystal Black Silica roof spoiler, and door mirror covers, Black front grille featuring STi badging, Cherry Red detailing in rear bumper and front grille, Brembo brakes, STi flexible draw stiffeners at the front and rear. Other STi touches include a rear subframe support, tuned dampers, coil springs and front stabiliser bushings.
Inside the cabin, the trimmings and roof liner are black, while there is red stitching detailing on the centre console. There are also STi logos on the gear knob, instrument gauge, leather trimmed steering wheel and leather trimmed seats. There is also a revised heater control panel and multifunction display visor.
