As the Subaru Summer of Cycling begins and the first leg of the National Road Series finishes in Perth, there appears to be no better time for the Japanese auto manufacturer to launch their limited edition Subaru XV Thule.
The Woodside Tour de Perth was the opening event for the Subaru National Road Series race events calendar. The win was claimed by Perth based Guy Kalma. Kalma took the win by a narrow margin of just 0.66 of a second, leaving second place to Jack Bobridge, 2015 dual track world championship medallist and individual pursuit world record holder. Third place went to Sam Crome.
Kalma is a relative newcomer to the world of cycling, beginning two years ago, when a knee reconstruction put an end to his state soccer and national athletic careers. Kalma has said that the win is the highlight of his cycling career and he felt it was “massive” being in his home tour. Kalma was quoted as saying he felt “very lucky” since he had some of the “smartest racers” competing for the win.
