This limited edition model has set the hearts of petrolheads racing since it was announced. Unfortunately, we’ve learned that this model will not be making its way here in Australia. However, all is not lost, many of these features will make their way into other Subaru new cars. We can also fantasize on what could have been and hope desperately for some kind of last minute reprieve.
The WRX S4 tS Performance Bump:
The Subaru WRX S4 tS is a limited edition version of the ever popular WRX performance sedan. Thanks to its rally heritage, powerful engine and amazing handling performance the WRX and its more powerful sibling the Subaru WRX STI have a fanatic following. In typical Subaru style, the WRX S4 tS is a case of much more of the same. The performance bump comes primarily from a new performance muffler and a low pressure drop air cleaner. Thanks to this, the four cylinder “boxer” 2.0 litre turbocharged power plant now generates 221 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque.
Even Better Handling Characteristics:
As we all know, power is not very useful if it cannot be directed in a useful way. Of course, the all wheel drive system remains, and it is paired with a lineartronic continuously variable transmission. However, there is a stronger radiator fan and an upgraded oil cooling unit to handle the additional stresses. The WRX S4 tS has had a significant boost to the handling on the WRX. This car is fitted with new features, such as a Bilstein suspension set-up, a front tower brace, and the rear suspension has a pillow ball bush. There are 19” BBS alloy wheels, and they are shod with surefooted 255/35 Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tyres.
Fresh New Styling:
No limited edition Subaru would be complete without some extra special touches. The S4 tS is no exception; on the outside, we find design elements, such as a new front splitter, red pinstripes on the front grille surround and matching pinstripes on the rear bumper. In the cabin, you will find features, such as Recaro STI spec front bucket seats, an upgraded instrument panel, a leather gear shift, a leather steering wheel, STI badging and tS limited edition badging. This car is available in either standard trim or in the more aggressive looking NBR Challenge Package which adds additional features, such as black alloy wheels, a suede covered steering wheel and a high rise rear spoiler.
