A Brief Subaru XV 2018 2.0i-S Review

2017-subaru-xv

This is a Subaru XV 2018 review focusing on the brand new 2.0i-S variant. Subaru has a long track record of combining blistering performance with off road rugged all wheel drive capability. The XV is now firmly established into its 2nd generation, the sales have steadily increased over time, and the XV 2.0i-S as a flagship model needs to make a statement of intent.

At a Glance

This first thing that you may notice is that the XV 2.0i-S is a very boxy looking wagon. This may suit some drivers sensibility immediately, but others may find themselves gradually warming up to the car over time. There is a ton of safety gear onboard, and all equipment is fitted as standard. The ride and handling are excellent as one would expect in a slightly sportier premium model.

The Standard Features

Essentially the XV is an Impreza saloon on steroids, and the 2.0i-S is packed to the gills with gear. The car sits at the top of the range, but the slight premium paid delivers a lot more for the money. We cannot list everything here, but some of the highlights, include active LED headlights, automatic wipers, dual climate control, active cruise control, roof rails, heated mirrors, an electric driving seat, leather trim, a sunroof, an 8” touchscreen, satellite navigation, 18” alloy wheels and the long awaited Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The comprehensive safety pack includes a reversing camera, “Vision Assist” and the latest EyeSight safety suite. This is an impressive package, and it’s important to remember that this is all fitted as standard equipment.

Under the Bonnet

The engine is the venerable Subaru 2.0L four cylinder “Boxer” powerplant seen in other cars in the stable. This engine is the same for all three XV variants in the new lineup. It generates 115kW of power and 192 Nm of torque delivering steady progression and performance. This engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic gearbox and Subaru’s all wheel drive system. The XV 2.0i-S has a kerb weight of 1,484kg, and 0-100km/hr can be achieved in a leisurely 10.4 seconds. Subaru claims a combined fuel consumption of 7L/100km in ideal conditions, but real-world testing in a suburban environment delivered closer to 8.4L/100km.
