2018 Subaru Impreza Review

A red Subaru Impreza Sedan

Subaru claimed that their new Impreza would be a foundation for the future and this may have sounded like hype. However, 12 months after the launch and strong sales figures have confirmed that Subaru’s claims were not just marketing hyperbole. While many manufacturers are banking everything on the SUV sales prediction, the Subaru Impreza bucked the trend and led to Subaru enjoying an impressive 2017. So, here we will explore what the 2018 Impreza has to offer by looking at the top of the line 2.0i-S.

The Aesthetics

Read any Subaru Impreza 2018 review and its likely to discuss the design, for good reason. The Impreza has polished and clean lines. Unlike many vehicles, the sedan looks just as good as the hatch, so you don’t need to choose between looks and functionality. From the front, the fog lights and stretched grille give a wide, low look to the Subaru. The side skirtings and large 18 inch alloys create a Euro style, premium feel.

The Cabin

While many manufacturers tend to throw everything but the kitchen sink to vehicle interiors, Subaru has kept the Impreza cabin understated and attractive. There are some design flourishes, but these are tempered by the functional and clean interior design.

The key component of the cabin layout if the twin screen setup. The main screen is dedicated to key functions and controlling your phone, while the smaller second screen handles car safety and sat nav.

The front seats are comfortable and wide, and there are plenty of connections. With four USB points and two power sources, you’ll have plenty of connections for all your devices. There are also lots of storage solutions including cupholders and door pockets to keep everything neat.

The backseat also feels comfortable and spacious with a pull down divider providing two additional cupholders. There is also an impressive 460 litres of cargo space.

Performance

The four cylinder, 2.0 litre Boxer engine delivers 115 kW power and 196 Nm torque. It is paired with a CVT transmission, sending all the power to four wheels. The Impreza is equipped with a 50 litre fuel tank and has a claimed combined consumption rate of 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres. On the road, the new Impreza feels mechanically sound and perfectly put together.

Safety Features

Finally, the Impreza has an impressive safety suite. It is equipped with reverse camera, seven airbags and the usual braking and traction aids. The 2.0i-S is also equipped with EyeSight Assist, which provides lane departure warnings, AEB, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, reverse auto braking and rear cross traffic alert. All of these features have contributed to the Impreza being awarded the maximum five star ANCAP rating.
