The Subaru BRZ occupies a rather special place in the Subaru stable as the only rear wheel drive sports coupe. Now the experience has been made even more special, with the introduction of the 2017 BRZ Sports Pack special edition. This variant adds some extra little touches and tweaks to make this release impress. It’s only available in limited numbers and demand is expected to be high. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer and if the additional premium is worth the money.

Australian Pricing and Availability:

The 2017 BRZ Sports Pack special edition is currently on sale, starting at $36,694 plus on roads. The BRZ Premium Pack is priced at $1,500, and the Sports Pack special edition is an extra $2,300. There are two version available with different prices. The first is a six speed manual at $36,694 and the second is a six speed automatic at $38,694. Only 150 BRZ Sports Pack specials will be available here, 100 manual transmissions and 50 automatics. There are four colours available; they are Pure Red, Dark Grey Metallic, Crystal White Pearl and WR Blue Pearl.

A Check Under the Bonnet:

We have come to expect no changes to the engines on these BRZ special editions, and this release is not an exception. Under the bonnet, there is the 2.0 litre horizontally opposed ‘Boxer’ petrol powerplant. The manual version generates 152kW of power and 212 Nm of torque. As one would expect, the diesel engine is slightly less powerful, generating 147kW of power and 212 Nm of torque.

The Sports Pack Specifications:

Much like the previous Sports Pack special editions that we have seen in recent years, there are some design cues and added equipment upgrades. Together, these enhancements add a little extra street cred to an already exciting sports coupe. On top of all the existing features on the base model, this Sports Pack, adds Sachs suspension, Brembo braking, a black rear wing, black mirrors, a black shark fin antenna, black rear badges and fresh new 17” alloy wheels.
