Even Sharper Looks
The Subaru WRX sedan has always had good looks, but the 2018 update has made them even sharper. There are new 18 inch alloys, and a classic WRX scooped bonnet. However, there are some more mature touches that are taking the WRX away from its boy racer stereotype. For example, the LED headlights now feature swivelling projector lamps for corner illumination, LED fog lights and integrated indicators.
A Cooler Cabin
Inside the 2018 Subaru WRX, you will find even more sophisticated touches. The base model has taken some of the features from the higher spec Premium. This includes rain sensing wipers, dusk sensing headlights, and heated side mirrors. There are also some neat touches inside to create a cooler cabin. The black moulding around the door switch panels and gearshift surround create a more cohesive aesthetic. There is also a larger multi function display that has higher resolution and has gone from 4.3 inches to 5.9 inches
Improved Handling
If you thought that the 2017 Subaru WRX handled well, you are going to be very pleased with the 2018 model. Subaru has tinkered with the underpinnings with suspension tweaks and the addition of Jurid brake pads to improve ride comfort and steering stability. This means that you won’t feel brutalised even if you tackle broken road surfaces particularly potholes.
Reliable Performance
One thing that hasn’t been changed is the flat four, turbocharged 2.0 litre engine powering the WRX. It’s 197 kW of power feels marvelous, particularly when you hit the mid range. The six speed transmission feels precise and offers an impressive zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds. While a little thirsty at 9.2 litres per 100 kilometres, you simply cannot argue that the WRX delivers a fantastic performance and driver experience.
Fantastic Trim Levels
If you want more than a great drive experience and are looking for plenty of gear and gadgets, the Subaru WRX range doesn’t disappoint. The Premium trim level is available in a manual or CVT and offers Subaru Eyesight. This adds lane change assist, auto high beam, side and front view monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot detection. The Premium WRX also has heated front seats, sat nav, electric sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system and leather trim.
