The Subaru BRZ Gets Freshened Up for 2015

The Subaru BRZ Gets Freshened Up for 2015

It has been almost three years since the Subaru BRZ Australia launch in 2012. Now the 2015 version is available, it would be fair to say that this is not the major update that some industry insiders may have been expecting. However, the changes although subtle are there and this joint Subaru and Toyota project appears to be adhering to a simplistic philosophy. At its core, the BRZ is still tightly focussed on being the best sporty coupe in its class that is a pleasure to drive. So what is new in the 2015 edition?

The most obvious external change that you may notice is the addition of a slim shark fin antenna. However, there are also six colours to choose from in the available palette. One of these colours is Pearl Blue which is inspired by Subaru’s rallying heritage and exclusive to them. The headlights are now bi-xenons which are self-levelling, there are also LED running lights for using during the day. Inside you will find that the rear view mirror now is frameless, the instrumentation now has silver highlights and there is also dual-zone climate control. The cabin is deliberately sparse, there are not many toys to use, there is Bluetooth connectivity, but the controls are tucked out of sight. Access to the car is now gained through the use of a smart key and the ignition is push button.

The 2 wheel drive engine choices have not been updated, both the 6 speed manual and automatic transmission models are still available. However, despite this the driving experience is even better than the outgoing model. Subaru have upgraded the shock absorbers and suspension to allow for even better handling and feedback from the road. The suspension is a revised version of the previous MacPherson strut and double wishbone model that has been tweaked significantly. The wheels are 17” alloys with 215/45 tyres and there is a full sized spare in the boot. It should be noted that there is a cover available for the spare, but it is an optional extra. The boot space is limited and without the spare tyre cover you may end up with your shopping settling inside your spare tyre.

Much like the vaunted Mazda MX-5 the Subaru BRZ engineers are steadfastly avoiding the temptation to overload it with gadgets. This can be a very hard line to follow for a car manufacturer and a delicate balance must be maintained. Almost everyone wants the latest technology, but they also want the best driving experience possible. This dilemma has spurred on the engineers to wring every bit of performance out of the Subaru BRZ without changing too much that already works.

The Subaru BRZ sale price is usually available from $37,150 to $43,230 driveaway, however, you may be interested to know that it is currently available from only $33,490. If you would like to know more about the Subaru BRZ, contact us. We will be happy to arrange a test drive for you and answer any questions or queries that you may have.
