Updated Subaru WRX Revealed in the US

A sportier design and a number of improvements under the surface have been revealed in the US for the updated WRX and WRX Sti. This reveal has provided a keen insight into what we can expect here in the Australian market.

Under the Skin:

The new Subaru WRX features the same direct injection 2.0 litre turbo engine, with the turbo 2.5 litre remaining unchanged in the Subaru WRX STi, but this doesn’t mean that there aren’t some significant changes under the skin. The 2017 models have been updated with a retuned suspension setup. This is designed to improve ride comfort and steering stability. The WRX has also been equipped with revised electric power steering to provide a “more natural” feeling, and the six speed manual has an “enhanced shifter” feeling, to elevate driver experience.

Improved Performance Spec::

In the US, the top end WRX variants have also gained eight way power adjustable Recaro seats, 18 inch alloys, upgraded Jurid brake pads and red brake callipers. The new STi will benefit from new 19 inch alloys fitted with 245/35 tyres. There is also an upgraded Driver Control Centre Diff for the all wheel drive system. This means that the electronic and mechanical control mechanisms for the central limited slip diff have been replaced by an all electronic set up.

The brake package has also been revised. The set up still features Brembo brakes, but there are now yellow callipers, new brake pads, and larger drilled discs. The system also includes revised mono block six piston front callipers and mono block two piston rear callipers, which are stronger.

Inside the Cabin:

Inside the cabin, both models have a revised trim with new materials. There is thicker door glass, faster boot opener, redesigned door grips, rear armrest with cupholders and a foam filled header beam for the front windscreen. The model also features a larger multifunction display. Lower spec models will now have a 5.9 inch display at the heart of the instrument cluster, while higher spec models will be upgraded from the 6.2 inch screen in the current model to a 7.0 inch touchscreen. There are also improved safety features including EyeSight and adaptive LED headlights.

The updated models will be available in the US during the second quarter of this year. Local availability and timing has yet to be confirmed. If you are considering buying a Subaru WRX for sale, Perth drivers should speak to us. The Perth City Subaru sales team would be happy to answer any of your questions and arrange your test drive.
