2.5i Premium Review for Subaru Outback Perth Drivers

We have seen a number of great cars and revisions in 2016 and as we say goodbye to the year let’s take a good long at one of best. The Outback has always been a good car, but the previous style was polarising at best. A fresh exterior and some clever addition turned it into an excellent vehicle in its class. The model we are looking at today is the 2.5i Premium, let’s take a closer look at what it has to offer.

A Brief Overview:

Sales of the new Subaru Outback have spiked sharply in the past two years in Australia. It is clear that Subaru has refined their Outback design and the public is responding positively. The Outback was the pioneer in this tall station wagon style segment back in the 90’s and as the market has increased it has been steadily evolving. This car has always been practical, but now it is adding other features that make it a compelling choice.

A New Design:

The exterior has been simplified, and the lines are far more pleasing than the predecessor. The Outback is based upon the Liberty sedan with added ride height, a taller profile, 18” tyres, redesigned overfenders, lowered sill covers and new aesthetic skid panels. As a wagon, the Outback is fairly unique as its stablemate the Liberty no longer has a wagon variant. This mid range 2.5i Premium model has other design features that deserve a mention, such as roof rails with crossbars, a large electric sunroof, LED headlights and large halogen fog lamps.

What’s Under the Bonnet?

As the name would suggest there is a 2.5 litre flat four “boxer” aspirated petrol engine. This powerplant generates 129 kW of power at 5800 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. It is paired with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that only comes as a six step manual with a paddle shifter on the steering wheel. There is a three mode Si Drive throttle adjustment system that offer the following options: Intelligent for increased economy, Sport for enhanced driver feedback and Sport Sharp for real fun. Fuel consumption is a combined 7.3L/100km, and the capacity is 60 litres of 91 RON fuel.

Other Useful Practical Features:

As a Subaru car we, of course, have a 5 star ANCAP safety rating and the 3rd generation EyeSight safety system. There is a cargo volume of 512 litres with the 60/40 rear seats up and a massive 1801 litres with them folded.
